About SCOIThe Saugeen Cottager’s Association Incorporated is a volunteer-run cottage association representing cottagers who lease land from the Saugeen First Nation #29 in the Sauble Beach area. It was formed in the early 60's as an umbrella association to represent the interests of the four cottage associations (Chiefs Point, South Sauble, French Bay and Block "B") to the Saugeen Band. Each of the local Associations has two representatives and two alternates within SCOI. Each Association appoints Directors to sit on the SCOI Committee and these Directors in turn elect SCOI Executives to a three-year term. You will note that all of the SCOI Directors are also Directors of your local Associations as mandated by the SCOI Charter. This appointment of Directors is to ensure that all the associations are well represented and have an equal opportunity to participate in Executive roles. DirectorsThe current president of SCOI is David Collie (South Sauble). Vice President — position is currently vacant Peter Moore (Block B) is the secretary treasurer of SCOI peterandjune@sympatico.ca. SCOI's major role continues to be to represent the cottage owners' position to our 'landlord', the Saugeen Band. The issues generally concern the 'lease' and activity around interpretation, improvements, pricing and Annual Service Fee and enforcement of by-laws. Major lease negotiations peak every 5 years with the lease renewal. Our present lease is in effect until April 30, 2011. The SCOI Executive also communicates with other cottage associations in Canada with leases on reserve lands. We encourage you to become a member of SCOI by joining your local cottage association. Ten dollars of your local membership fee goes directly to SCOI and is used for administration expenses such as mailing of the annual newsletter and other communication to cottagers. Association members are all members of SCOI and as such have voting privileges at all general meetings. The annual general meeting is usually held on the Saturday of the Labour Day weekend. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

President's MessageAs the newly appointed President of SCOI, I am looking forward to the year ahead and welcome your input along the way. SCOI is your association and we want to hear your ideas and suggestions. Obviously, as we approach the end of the current lease period there is an element of heightened interest in lease related matters. That is why it is more important than ever to make sure your voice is heard by becoming a SCOI member. We are the voice of advocacy on your behalf – a voice of reason and diplomacy – seeking only fairness and transparency. I would like to thank the dedicated volunteer board of directors of SCOI for their time and valuable input and make a note of special thanks to our past President, Mel Parisi who represented SCOI with the highest of integrity. Best Regards, David Collie
